Gators lacrosse cruises to Big East win

The Florida lacrosse team downed visiting Villanova on Wednesday, 19-9.

Florida (12-2, 6-0 Big East) was dominant in the draw circle, winning 19 of 30 opportunities. Senior attacker Mollie Stevens finished the game with seven, and sophomore midfielder Sydney Pirreca had a career-high six. The Gators took a 13-3 lead into halftime, with senior attacker Sammi Burgess tallying four points, including her 32nd assist of the season, making her Florida's single-season assist leader. Burgess would finish the game with five points (two goals, three assists) and two ground balls.

Sophomore attacker Lindsey Ronbeck had a well-rounded performance against the Wildcats (3-10, 1-5) with four goals, three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.

"I'm pleased we were able to make the necessary adjustments and come out with a win against a very good team," UF coach Amanda O'Leary said.

The Gators will travel to Indianapolis to challenge Big East newcomer Butler (1-12, 0-5) for the first time Saturday.
